Microsoft Visio 2016 Professional for electrical and technical documentation
Microsoft Visio 2016 Professional is Microsoft's extended diagramming software from the 2016 release. It is not included in any Office package but is a standalone Windows application. To be honest from the outset: Microsoft support for this version ended on 14 October 2025.
Nevertheless, Visio 2016 Professional still has its place, for example in electrical and maintenance businesses. There, circuit diagrams, plant schematics and maintenance procedures that have grown over years often exist as Visio files, sometimes with custom stencils. If another technician workstation needs to edit exactly these files, a version that matches the environment is practical. Database diagrams for older applications are also frequently maintained with this release.

Differences from Standard and from newer releases
Visio 2016 Standard includes flowcharts, organisation charts and basic shapes, but no engineering, UML, BPMN, network or database stencils. Data linking, comments and validation rules are also reserved for Professional. Later versions continue to use the .vsdx format, so files are generally interchangeable. If you are starting without existing files, we recommend Visio 2024 because of its support.

Support period
Visio 2016 has not received any security updates since 14 October 2025, because Microsoft has ended support. The licence is perpetual, and the program continues to work. For workshop or technical computers used mainly for documentation, this is often acceptable; nevertheless, weigh it up carefully.
How purchase and activation work
- Order: Once payment has been received, the licence key with instructions is sent by email, usually within a few minutes.
- Install: Download the installation files from Microsoft or via our download link.
- Activate: Enter the key and activate online with the manufacturer, in some cases by phone. We can help by email at info@keychannel.de and, on request, via remote support.

Ja. Die Professional-Edition bietet Engineering-Vorlagen, unter anderem für Elektrotechnik, sowie UML-, BPMN-, Netzwerk- und Datenbankschablonen.
Wird Visio 2016 noch unterstützt?
Nein. Der Microsoft-Support endete am 14.10.2025. Seitdem gibt es keine Sicherheitsupdates; das Programm bleibt nutzbar.
